University Place (U.P.), Washington is a young, upcoming community that is nestled between Lakewood and Tacoma.

This past Friday, University Place (U.P.) hosted their 1st ever Oktoberfest in the community's Market Square–– also home to U.P. City Hall, U.P. library, Whole Foods, and several retail businesses.

The event was free and took place from 5pm- 9pm. When we arrived around 6:30pm, there was plenty of parking left in the parking garage.

That night, Market Square was alive! From lights, music, to people enjoying themselves on a clear, fall evening.

While waiting in line for a ballon, by balloon artist Ms. Carol, or waiting to get their face painted, children were dancing to Polka-inspiring oompah music from the Lyle Schaefer German Band and playing carnival games.

There were people waiting in line for German fare from the Itty Bitty Schnitty food truck, and if you didn't want to wait in line for German food, MOD Pizza was right next door ready to make a wood-fired pizza or salad of your choice (which is the option we chose to go with for the evening).

Adults-of-age were enjoying beer from the beer garden sponsored by Engine House No. 9.

To satisfy our sweet tooth after dinner, U.P. business, Bliss Ice Cream was serving ice cream specials–– free kids size cup or cone with a purchase of regular or large cup or cone. We weren't in the mood for ice cream so luckily there were other options: local kettle corn booth selling small bags for $6, a booth selling caramel apples for $4, and Anthem Coffee serving up coffee/tea at Oktoberfest rate–– BOGO coffee or tea beverage 1/2 off. We decided to try a small bag of local kettle corn and spent the rest of the evening enjoying our sweets with music.

It was a definitely a fun evening for all! And, definitely worth checking out next year (if they celebrate Oktoberfest again).
